Well-behaved dogs are welcome, but as noted on our home page, we do ask for a small supplement of £30 to cover extra cleaning time.
Staithes is a great place for dogs with no restrictions on the beach for all the year and two dog-friendly pubs and tea-shop.
The garden at Cliff Cottage provides outdoor space, but it is not fully enclosed with access into woodland beyond the upper garden (which belongs to the Garth next door), so keep an eye on your dog if left outdoors.
There are a couple of dog-bowls under the sink in case you have forgotten to bring enough.
Dogs are welcome downstairs, but we ask not to let them on furniture. A stair-gate is provided to help avoid access upstairs. We ask that dogs are not left unattended, unless in a pen; if nothing else, we know it can get stressful when in a new environment.
We ask that any major doggy-related evidence, such as hair or paw-prints are cleaned before you leave and we reserve the right to charge extra if a deep-clean is needed or if any obvious damage.
It also goes without saying that we ask that any dog-dirt is picked up in the garden and bagged carefully before putting in the bin. As the bins are generally emptied by hand, we ask that all bagged waste is put into one of the bigger bin-bags used for general rubbish and not placed loose in the bins.
Enjoy your stay!
Out and about with dogs
Although Staithes beach is open all year to dogs, the main areas of the beach at Whitby, Sandsend and Saltburn are restricted with access for dogs only in the winter. We suggest you check specific dates, but typically, there are restrictions May – September inclusive.
Runswick Bay and the best beach in the area at Skinningrove do not have restrictions (at the time of writing this).
Many pubs, cafes etc are dog-friendly in the area and importantly, the Cod and Lobster and Royal George welcome dogs, although be prepared for the indoor areas to be very busy – and with many other dogs. Dotty’s Tea Room also welcomes dogs, but again it is a small area and other dogs likely to be already there.
